Parma Community General Hospital Emergency Department Renovation & ICU Addition
Parma, Ohio
CBLH Design assisted Parma Community General Hospital with a study to explore how to expand the Emergency Department to meet the projected needs of 65,000 patient visits per year. Various alternatives were explored including constructing an all new department and various ways to expand the existing department in place. Because of site constraints and budget limitations, it was decided to renovate and expand in place relocating two less strategic departments offsite. The new department expanded from 10,256 square feet to 22,261 square feet and from 23 treatment spaces to 45.

Because of the need to keep the department open during this major renovation, a four-stage phasing plan was developed that included temporary relocation of the walk-in entrance, the ambulance entrance and the trauma rooms. The new department has an X-ray room, a decontamination area, two trauma rooms, a fast track area, a holding area and multiple use treatment rooms as well as specialty rooms.
